During his interview on Toronto International Film Festival for his Upcoming Film Unstoppable, Don Cheadle, who portrays War Machine in the MCU, was asked about RDJ potentially taking on the role of Doctor Doom.
Cheadle, having shared screen time with RDJ for years, had a unique insight into the actor’s creative approach.
Cheadle expressed that RDJ has a remarkable ability to reinvent himself. He recalled how RDJ’s portrayal of Tony Stark/Iron Man redefined superhero roles, blending charm, wit, and vulnerability.
“If anyone can transform a villain like Doctor Doom into a captivating and multi-dimensional character, it’s Robert.” Don Said
He hinted that RDJ’s return, this time as a villain, could push the boundaries of what fans expect from Doctor Doom. Cheadle didn’t shy away from showing his excitement, stating that this potential casting could bring a new level of intensity and complexity to the MCU’s villains.
Don Cheadle was quite surprised when he found out about Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU as Doctor Doom. During a recent interview, Cheadle expressed his shock, saying to Collider,
“I was like, ‘What the f*ck?’” Don Cheadle said
When asked about Downey’s casting as Victor Von Doom. Like many fans, Cheadle did not expect the former Iron Man to return in such a major villain role.
While promoting his new film Unstoppable, Cheadle shared his candid reaction, which mirrored the shock.
Another point Cheadle touched on was his long-standing friendship and on-screen chemistry with RDJ.
The two have shared numerous scenes throughout the MCU as War Machine and Iron Man, and their relationship both in and out of character has been widely celebrated by fans.
Cheadle joked, “If RDJ becomes Doom, I’d love to face him as War Machine. That would be something to see!”
